When Dextrus started in 2018, we weren’t trying to build just another coworking space. We were responding to a clear gap in modern office design. Offices had become predictable, either overly corporate and impersonal or energetic to the point of distraction. In both cases, something essential was missing: intention and calm.
With the belief that office spaces should be built with clarity and purpose, where professionals would love to come and work, Dextrus was created. Not designed around trends, but around how people actually think, work, and collaborate.
That belief continues to guide our approach to purpose-driven design, creating environments that feel calm yet powerful, refined yet flexible, and thoughtfully crafted for performance every single day.
Recently, while speaking with YourStory, our Founder and CEO, Robin Chhabra, explained each element and the thought process behind our office space design ideas.
Design That Supports the Way We Work
From the very beginning, we have believed that modern office design should do more than impressive looks. It should actively support performance. As the CEO says, “design is not a cosmetic layer, it is a cognitive tool”.
Before founding Dextrus, Robin worked with international architectural practices, where he developed a deep respect for disciplined planning and long‑term thinking. That foundation shapes the approach to every Dextrus workspace.
Going beyond trends, the design starts with questions: How will people move through the space? Where will they focus? Where will they collaborate? How will light, sound, and air impact their day? These questions guide our office space design ideas, ensuring that each decision contributes to building productive workplaces that are more than visually appealing.
The Power of Natural Elements
We pay close attention to the fundamentals that quietly shape productivity. Access to natural light in offices, thoughtful material selection, and spatial openness influence mood and mental clarity in measurable ways.
Where possible, we select properties with strong floor plates that allow sunlight to flow into the workspace. Internally, we integrate greenery and art in ways that reflect principles of biophilic office design, connecting people to nature within an urban environment.
Rooted in Indian Identity
As Robin shared with YourStory, every Dextrus centre is shaped by its surroundings. We intentionally collaborate with Indian artists and artisans to embed local narratives into our environments.
At Lower Parel, we paid homage to the neighbourhood’s textile legacy through embroidered fabric art that reflects its mill history. At Crescenzo BKC, the ‘Dolls of Work’ installation celebrates labour and creation, placing work at the centre of the space. At One BKC, Gond art inspired by the district’s mangrove past adds colour, storytelling, and a sense of rooted identity.
These elements bring warmth and emotional resonance into the workplace. They ground professionals in an authentic space.
Investing in the Invisible Details
Some of the most important aspects of an impactful workspace are the least visible. Workplace acoustics, air quality, duct planning, insulation, and material longevity are rarely highlighted in marketing brochures, yet they define everyday comfort.
Poor acoustics increase fatigue. Inconsistent air circulation reduces focus. Over time, these inefficiencies silently impact performance. Treating infrastructure as a long‑term investment, our systems are designed with additional capacity to enable enterprises to scale without structural disruption.
Materials are chosen to age well over time. Mechanical and electrical systems are engineered to support sustained usage. This invisible foundation enables us to deliver consistently high-performing workplaces.
Focused on the Right Partners
From the outset, we have been intentional about who we build for. The ecosystem is designed primarily for enterprises and global organisations that value stability, performance, and long‑term partnerships.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with clients such as Welspun ONE, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Sumitomo, Adani Connex, Harvard Business School, British Council, and Rabobank. These partnerships are built on trust, operational consistency, and thoughtfully designed environments.
As Robin explains, flexibility sits at the core of our decisions. The enterprise solutions are structured to foster a sense of ownership within a flexible office layout, while still benefiting from the efficiencies and community of a shared ecosystem.
Choosing Restraint in a Market Obsessed with Scale
The coworking industry often sees rapid expansion and aggressive footprint growth. Dextrus chose a different path. From early on, we recognised that growth at all costs can dilute experience. When scale becomes the only metric of success, design depth, service quality, and operational discipline tend to suffer.
Instead, Dextrus focused on depth. Each centre is carefully planned, financially structured, and operationally stabilised before we look at expansion. Fiscal discipline has been central to the long‑term resilience, ensuring that every location is sustainable and unit‑level profitable.
This measured approach allows us to protect what matters most: thoughtful modern office design, consistent service standards, and infrastructure that supports productivity. In our view, restraint is not a limitation; it is clarity of intent, and that clarity continues to guide how Dextrus grows.
A Long-Term View of Success
For us, success is not defined by footprint alone. It is defined by relevance. A thoughtfully designed office should remain functional and meaningful years after it is built.
In the words of our Founder and CEO, “With Dextrus, we aim to be the gold standard for office space as a service. It’s our responsibility and priority to think about all aspects of the design, operations, and the service quotient so that our clients do not have to worry about it.”
If you are looking for your next workplace, our spaces in prime locations of Mumbai are the perfect match for productivity and growth.
